Puppets and Casette Tapes

In art we are all busy on making our puppets. I only started last week so I haven't got a lot done ..yet. We are making them by using recycable materials like newspaper , toilet rolls , milk bottles and cling film rolls too. At the minute I am working on my puppets head so hopefully I will start to paper machet it next week and then I will move on to the body.

In art we were also doing casette portraits of famous people we like. I chose Danny O'Donoghue from The Script. We started buy drawing the person we wanted to do and then from there we had to start filling it in using casette tapes.

Cassette Tape and Puppet Work!

At the moment I am working on my own puppet. I finished my Cassette Potrait which was of Jean Baptiste. I found some parts of the Potrait hard as the pieces were really thin to work with and it was hard to stick down at the start. But the more I worked on  it the easier it became. At the moment I am working on my puppet. I got my idea from the character of Up. I started building up the materials from tissue and I am paper macheing the face. The next step is to build up the body and to start making the arms and feet.

Puppet Work!

For the past few weeks I have been making my puppet in art class and I am making great progress with it. I started gathering many different pieces of recyclable materials from home in order to make my puppet. I started my puppet by getting pieces of newspaper together and stuck it with tapae. I built this up until I was happy with the shape of my head. I began creating features on the face by using egg cartons as the ears, nose, eyes and mouth. At the moment I am paper macheting my puppets face and should be finished with that soon. I will then cover the face with brown bags to give a tanned look to my puppets face.Once I have the face finished I will make the body by using kitchen rolls and milk bottles. I am looking forward to seeing my puppet finished and I am having a great time making my puppet.

Casette tape portraits and puppets

This term we made potraits of a famous person we like. I chose to do a portrait of Victoria Justice from Victorious. Firstly we found a picture and then we pixelized that picture. The black parts of the picture were where we were going to put the strings of casette tapes. We started putting the casette tapes on in all different ways, straight lines for straight hair and twirling the tapes for curly hair, they all looked amazing when they were finished. After we made portraits we began to make puppets. Today I started making the head of my puppet using a balloon and paper maché.

Cassette tape, still going!

I am  still working on my cassette tape portrait of Marilyn Monroe. It's going well though slowly and I think I should be finished soon. I have been using PVA glue to stick the tape down, which has been good overall, but there has been quite a lot of peeling with the older pieces. I think that this project has been a good and challenging one and I have enjoyed it immensely.

cassette tape and puppet:)

I have finished my Mrs. Brown cassette tape piture. I have now started my puppet. The first thing I had to do was make the head for my puppet so I rolled newspaper into balls and put masking tape on it to hold it together. I then put my puppets  head on to a toilet roll for the neck of my puppet. Then I started to develop the features for my puppets face. I used the lids off plastic bottles for the ears and nose. I got newspaper and rolled it into shapes for my mouth and eyebrows. I am now doing paper matte on my puppets face I am nearly finisged and I am then going to start the body.

Corpse Bride

I started my puppet work today and so far i am really enjoying it. I had to do lots of research first of all and draw out my designe in different angles so i had a really good idea on what i was going to mould. I had previously collected all of my items and recycled material. I decided on my designe which  is the blue girl from corpe bride. I drew her out in different angles and i have a good idea of what her clothes will be like in my head. I have a feeling the designe will change many times as i go along but thats ok. I started to mould the head out of newspaper today and I have a good feeling about it because it looks quite similiar to the drawing. I might have to define her features a little more because next i have to put paper mache around the newspaper and if the features are not defined enough they will get lost in the paper mache. I am looking foward to finishing my designe and i am looking foward to see the end result.

Tape Portraits and Puppet Making!

This term in Art Class we have done lots of new and exciting things! The first thing we did was our Cassette Tape Portraits! Basically, we printed off pictures of famous people, or people we admire and like. I picked Ed Sheeran because I love him! Our first task was to sketch an outline of Ed. The next thing was to actually put tape to paper and begin! I found this projewct quite difficult as you needed a lot of patience and it involved some finicky bits of tape. Overall, everyones looked great and I'm really glad I got to experience this. The next project was puppet making! Which we were all very excited to do. We began collecting all recycable materials, such as, newspaper, toilet roll holders and other things. Then we had to decide what to make then puppet look like, I chose a Rag Doll. I stuffed pink and yellow tights to make the arms and I plan to have yellow and pink hair. We paper mached the head and the basic shape of the puppet. I can't wait to see my Rag Doll finished!
Over and out,
Corrie!

Puppets and Casette tapes!

I've finally finished my Will Smith Casette portrait and I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out. Everyone's looks really good!!
Now I'm on to my puppet. I've decided to do a small, fat Italian man. Because who doesn't love one of those?.. So far I've just drawn a sketch of him and made the basic shape of his head with newspaper and cellotape. I hope it turns out alright! I am currently working on his mustach which I feel is the most important part ; )
bye for now!

Cassete tape portraits and puppets!!

I finished my cassete tape portrait of Audrey Hepburn last week i'm really happy with how it looks now. It took quite a long time to make as it was really difficult glueing down the tape.
I started doing my puppet. I drew a sketch of him. He is a short, fat french man with a moustache. I have finished the head and am adding features like the nose, eyes and his moustache. I am using newspaper and masking tape to stick everything together. The nose and eyes are made from bits that I cut off from egg cartons. I am still in the beginning stages now so I can't wait to see how it ends up looking.

Cassette tape portraits and Puppets!

Today in T.Y art I finished my cassette tape portrait of Harry Styles. I really enjoyed doing the portrait! I never knew you could use things such as cassette tapes to complete a picture or portrait. it actually really looks like the person as well.
Now I have moved on to making a puppet. I drew a simple sketch this morning of what I want my puppet to look like. My puppet is supposed to a little girl with pig tails and glasses. I have started on the head using newspaper and masking tape. It it beginning to actually look like a head. I now have to add features such as eyes and ears. It's just the start and i have a long way to go but I'm looking forward to  the finished project.

Cassette Tape Portraits!

Today I'm finishing off my Cassette Tape Portrait! Mine is based on a picture of Louis Tomlinson and is nearly complete! I'm doing the last bits of his hair, face, etc. in our double this morning. I've been at this for a long time, but I just want to make it good! Hopefully it will be! :) I've been using an old tape and PVA glue for the portrait, it was kind of awkward at first in that I didn't really know what I was doing or how was the best way to go about it, but I've figured it out and have gotten kind of quick at it too, Thank God! That's about it... It's not overly exciting, but I'm nearly finished! Whoo! :)

People On Strings*

Well the art room is starting to look a little like Gepetto's Workshop at the moment.  Most people have finished their casette tape portraits at this stage and are starting on their puppets.  I am in the process of doing paper-mache on the head of my puppet.  I'm going to attempt to model my puppet on 'Queen Susan the Gentle' from 'The Chronicles of Narnia'.  They were my favourite books when I was younger and Susan was one of my favourite characters.  When the movie came out I loved the look of her costume in the 'crowning' scene of the film.  Anyway we only have five weeks left until TY Night, so the race is on to get our puppets dancing.  Best get back to work!

Casette Tapes & Puppets!

In January our class started working on a new project in Art. We began to make portraits of our favourite celebrities out of casette tapes. It took us all a while to source the tapes but as soon as everyone had found some we started the project. We first had to go to the computer room and print off a picture of the celebrity we chose. I chose to do Simon Cowell. We edited the photo into black and white by using an editing website. After we had printed out the pictures we went back to the art room and began to sketch our chosen celebrity. We cut up the pieces of tape and stuck them down using PVA glue. At first I found it very difficult because I amn't very artistic but soon enough I got the hang of things. I only finished my portrait last week but I am very happy with how it turned out.
This week I began to work on my puppet. I first had to sketch a picture of what I want my puppet to look like. I chose to use Homer Simpson as a guideline but I will not be completely copying the character. I then used half an egg carton as the head to create the rectangular shape for the face. I then had to cover the egg carton in newspaper especially the back of the egg carton to create the shape of the head. Hopefully making the rest of the puppet will be a lot of fun and that we'll all enjoy it!

Art

Last week I finished my  cassette portrait for this we had too bring in cassettes to use the tape from them we had to print out a black and white image of a celebrity we then had to stick tape on the black parts of the picture which we drew out on a A3 page copying the picture we printed from the internet.

For the second class last week I started on my puppet, I think this is the most exciting project that we have done in art and I can't wait to start making mine I am still on the working on the head part right now I have put in all the features of the face eg nose, ears. I am paper machéing the head now I think I am going to do two layers of  paper machéing. We had to bring in different materials to make our puppet. For my puppet I havent yet decided if I was to do an old lady, a baby or a toddler.
We are working on the puppets for the rest of the year and I hope to get mine finished by the end or at least half done.

Puppets & Cassette tapes!

This year in art we have been making all sorts of mad creations. We started with a Junk Kouture outfit made from any recycled material of choice and have moved on to cassette portraits. I decided to do my portrait on Johnny Depp and I am really near completion. At first nobody thought they would be able to do it but as time went on and we gradually filled our pages we realised that we were a bit better at art than previously thought.

Since returning from our Easter break we have started on a new project, puppet making. I think this is the most exciting project of the lot and I can't wait to start making mine. I have decided upon a mermaid design and plan on using the likes of toilet rolls, newspapers and milk cartons to make it. Better get working!

Puppets

The past two weeks I have been working on my Puppet, Pierre! It’s coming together nicely and I can’t wait to see the finished product. I am currently paper machéing the head after building up the structure and features. Building the structure didn’t take long but it was difficult getting the head to take shape. I really liked creating the features on the face; I was able to see the character come to life through the eyes, ears, nose and mouth!
I’m looking forward to see what kind of puppets everyone creates. They will be so different and I think I will be able to get to know people's personalities through the puppets! As a class we have done lots this year in art and we have created some brilliant pieces! I can’t wait to showcase our puppets on TY Night. We have definitely shown our creative sides this year! :)

Art Attack!

Hey there lads!

So the past few weeks we have been doing art based on our favourite celebrities.. I personally chose Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay! We had to take a trip to the computer room and find a picture that captivated us.. We then had to put our picture to a website called 'Pixlr' and convert por pictures to black and white, changing the positive and negative space in doing so.
We then re-drew the pictures on A3 sheets. We brought in cassette tapes and applied the tape to the black patches in our drawings. I have ta say, the celebrities turned out class! Everyone payed extra attention ta the fine lined details and put all of their effort into their drawings. Our creations are up on the walls of Room 12, and are captivating the attention of many art students!
We have now moved on to puppet making. I have created my head for my old man, including facial features such as eyes and lips. I am excited ta see how my puppet and everyone elses turns out! Here's to the last stride in TY Art!

Cassette tape portrait!

       Hey everyone :)
I started my cassette tape portrait after christmas, and I am still currently working on it. At first I had to pick a celebrity, find a picture of them and then edit it on pixlr. I chose Gary Lightbody, from Snow Partol. I then had to draw out my picture, before starting to work with the tape. I am really enjoying working on this project, but it is taking a lot of time. I hope to move onto my puppet next week, and I will be making a pirate!

My Casette Tape.

Hey,
This week in art I'm finally starting my rod puppet. The last thing that I did was my casette tape portrait. My image was of Tom Daley, the Olympic Diver. To produce our portraits, we had to get old casette tapes that nobody listened to anymore. Then we had to draw our portrait of the celebrity we had decided to do and then we got to do the fun bit and glue everything down. It took an immensly long however the end result was fully worth the wait. However there were numerous ammounts of times when we almost ran out of PVA glue OOPS! Now I'm looking forwrd to starting my puppet this week.

This term

The week before mid-term I started planning my puppet. I firstly drew the puppet out on a piece of paper to help me along with my puppet. Also in the class I started the head for my puppet, I used newspaper for it. I got newspaper and rolled it in a ball and kept adding to it. I shaped it with masking tape.
In this class today , the first class after mid-term I started shaping the facial features. I taped my head to a piece of cardboard so I wouldnt have to hold it up and it made it easier. I started off with the eyes and used egg carton for it, I put them on with masking tape. I also used egg carton for the nose and also used masking tape to stick it on.

-Amanda

The week before our Easter holidays I began to create my Puppet. I started by planning what kind of a character I was going to make. When I decided on my character I began to draw. I did a ruff sketch of what I plannned on making. I then started making. We began with the head balling up newspapers to create the shape. We added features by building up newspaper in cretain areas. They were stuck down with masking tape and pushed hollows in the eyes and checks!
This week I am doing paper maché. It is a slow process but my Puppet is finally taking shape!

TY Art Classes

Zoe Palmer

This term, I'm finishing off my cassette tape portrait of Michael Jackson, and starting my puppet. The puppet will eventually become a rockstar, with curly black hair and lots of rockstar attitude! I'm making him out of paper mache, egg cartons and other recycled materials, so a lot of work is going into it!

What we are getting done this term.

Caitlin Windrum
This term I am finishing off my tape piece of Adam Levine from Maroon 5. I am starting my puppet. I had to draw out my puppet design so that I can see what I will be doing instead of doing it from my head which can be a bad idea at times. After I draw my puppet I will have to gather up newspapers and tape them together to get the structure of my puppets head. I will have to add in all the features with tape, tissue and newspapers. I am really looking forward to finishing my puppet as I will like to see out it will turn out.

What we're getting up to this term....

In Art class, all TY students are kept busy working away on different assignments which we've been assigned... in this post we'll keep you all up to date on each students experience of Art this term.

Before Easter we came up with the idea of making puppets. We had just finished our Cassette tape art, I made Robert Sheehan. By using the tape in a Cassette Tapes, we stuck down tape on a page and modelled it on a picture of a celebrity or c haracter we liked. This week I've begun my puppet, by using newspaper to ball up and create a head for my puppet. I drew a character called Nathanial Delacroix, a redneck vampire. I'm hoping my puppet will turn out like him. I'm really excited to see the finished product.
Megan Strickland

For the past few weeks we have all been working on our cassette tape portraits. We picked a celebrity to do the portrait of and got to work stright away as it was going to take a long time. We pulled the tape of out tapes and used this to create a textured and shadowed kind of appearance. I chose Robert Sheehan, nearly all of us have finished and have now moved on to making puppets. We first off had to draw up a sketch of what our character would look like, as something to go by as we make it. Choosing a character is harder than I thought.
Lauren Roche

For our art project we had to mak a portrait picture of a famous person we like. but instead of drawing this person we used cassette tapes and to re create this person. The person I chose is Miku Hatsune a famous singer in Japan. She isn't alive but she is still really popular. it was difficult to do the hair and the little parts of the picture but it came out very well. I am now making the head of my pupet which is going to be a famous pop star who dresses like a cat!! I hope it goes well!
Sarah Quinlan

We have been working on our cassette tape project in art for several weeks now. We had to chooses a portrait of a famous person and use the cassette from inside the tape to cover their faces. The person I chose is Uma Therman. I drew her in great detail which made it reaaaaalllly really hard to cover her in cassettes, but I'm nearly done and soon I will be starting my puppet. I can't wait!
